Eudora ? Veritas Christian School’s boys basketball team defeated Independence, Mo., Center Place, 49-34, on Friday night.

Ethan Kay scored 16 points, while Ethan Scott and Elijah Penny had 13 apiece.

Veritas coach Gary Hammer credited the squad’s man-to-man defense for slowing Jordan Brotherton, who had 15 points, but just five the final 20 minutes.

“Also, we had balanced scoring with three in double figures,” Hammer said.

Veritas (15-6) will meet WAHAA in a first-round KCAA state tournament game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Eudora.
