Wichita ? DOJ fights release of voter fraud e-mails

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Justice Department argues it doesn’t need to turn over e-mails discussing its enforcement policies on voter fraud cases.

At issue is a case filed by a Wichita lobbyist. The Justice Department says in its filing Monday in federal court in Wichita that the lobbyist has no standing to assert the legal interests of unidentified third parties.

Former City Council member Gregory Ferris sued last month after the Justice Department did not immediately turn over documents requested in November under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Justice Department acknowledged it has not produced responsive records. But it denies it has failed to comply with time requirements for responding to the request.
