Pittsburg State University students to provide free tax help

? Business students at Pittsburg State University will provide free tax help again this year.

The southeastern Kansas school says people seeking the assistance must have an annual household income of less than $49,000.

University students and retirees are among those eligible to have their taxes prepared through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Pittsburg State faculty member Gail Yarick says many of the students are majoring in accounting, and the volunteer opportunity gives them a chance to apply the tax knowledge they’re learning in their classes.

She says the volunteer opportunity often leads to internships and jobs.

The tax help will be offered starting Feb. 15 in Kelce Hall without appointments. Volunteers will continue preparing taxes through April 13.
