HAYS — It’s now legal to buy and sell liquor in Ellis County on Sundays.

The Hays Daily News reports that a recent Ellis County resolution allowing Sunday liquor sales became law this week.

Ellis County commissioners unanimously approved the resolution Oct. 13 to allow Sunday sales. The county then waited 60 days to give voters a chance to file protest petitions, but none were filed.

County Administrator Greg Sund told commissioners he had consulted with County Counsel Bill Jeter regarding the language of the resolution and was told Ellis County’s resolution mirrors state law.

Sund also said that state law says if the county allows packaged liquor to be sold on Sundays, the county can also issue Sunday open container permits.
