Lawrence is an attractive town any time of year, but it’s especially pretty during the holiday season.

City workers and Downtown Lawrence Inc. deserve the community’s thanks for their efforts to brighten various spots throughout the city. Massachusetts Street is aglow with many attractive lights and decorations for shoppers and other visitors to enjoy. The balconies at City Hall are outlined in lights, and festively decorated spots provide pockets of holiday cheer in several other locations. The northwest corner of Centennial Park, for instance, is brightly decorated to greet motorists on Sixth Street, including many who are entering the city via the West Lawrence turnpike interchange.

In addition to the decorated public spaces, many private residents also have gone to considerable effort to string lights and provide other decorations to brighten their neighborhoods.

The winter solstice is bringing our shortest days of the year, but the glow of holiday lights help brighten the city after sundown.

It’s great to live in a community that cares enough to put on its festive best to help everyone get in the holiday mood. Now, all we need is a little snow …
