State Christmas tree to be lit tonight

? Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and first lady Mary Brownback are being joined by Topeka High School singers and Santa Claus at the state’s annual Christmas tree lighting.

The event begins at 5:45 p.m. Monday on the south side of the Kansas Statehouse.

The Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association presented the tree to Brownback on Friday afternoon. It’s a 10-foot-tall Scotch pine from the Memory Lane Christmas tree farm owned by Harry and Juanita Peckham of Rantoul.

The Peckhams were given the chance to provide the tree because they hosted the association’s 2011 summer meeting at their farm.
