Ballard Community Services is in need of 20 volunteers to help with its annual fundraising event Sept. 24, the Ballard B3 — Blues, Brews and Barbecue. This is the only fundraiser for Ballard Community Services, and all proceeds go toward supporting the low tuition rates for its early education program. Volunteers must be over the age of 21 and are needed to help with tasks including cleaning tables and running items throughout the park. In particular, late-night volunteers to help with cleanup are needed. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt and free admittance to the event, which entitles them to barbecue. Immediate needs

• The Lawrence Hunger Project is a collaborative effort to draw attention to the problems of hunger both here in Douglas County and throughout the world. More than 500 volunteers are needed to participate in an event working with Numana to package 100,000 meals for a country with severe food insecurity. The event will also include a food drive to benefit local pantries. The event will be on World Food Day, Oct. 16, at the Lawrence High School West Gym. Individuals, families and groups are encouraged to sign up to volunteer. There are 15 stations, accommodating 10 volunteers each, with three two-hour time slots: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more details or to sign up for a volunteer shift, visit volunteerdouglascounty.org.

• The Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair is seeking 20 volunteers to help set up and tear down its event Sept. 10. The first group of 10 volunteers is needed from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. to help set up tables, chairs and recycling bins, and to help exhibitors carry their displays inside the building. The second group of 10 volunteers is needed from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. to help tear down the event and carry displays to exhibitors’ vehicles. • Family Promise of Lawrence is in need of a few volunteers for its Auction Party fundraiser Sept. 18 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The buffet-style dinner will be catered by Maceli’s, and the volunteers will be helping to set up the buffet, serve the food on the buffet line and do a bit of cleaning up afterward. Five volunteers are needed to serve from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and another five to serve from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Volunteer will be free to graze the buffet before or after their shifts. • Audio Reader is in search of several volunteers to help with its upcoming “For Your Ears Only” fundraiser. The annual music sale — featuring vinyl LPs, vintage and modern audio equipment, and CDs at bargain prices — will be Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Up to three volunteers are needed to help hang promotional posters around the Kansas University campus during the next couple of weeks. Volunteers will be provided with a list of locations that accept posters and should be comfortable walking fairly long distances on hilly terrain. Additionally, up to 10 volunteers are needed to help with setup and cleanup for the event. The event will be set up between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sept. 15, and volunteers are asked to commit to a four-hour shift in either the morning or afternoon. • Friends of Hidden Valley invites volunteers to come help at one of its upcoming annual workdays at the camp. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11, several volunteers will work alongside local Girl Scout troops to help spruce up the cabin, outbuildings, butterfly garden and grounds in the center of the camp. Other tasks may be cleaning up fire rings, restocking woodpiles, cutting back encroaching brush, and burning brush. There will be tasks for all ages, and families are welcome. Instruction, tools, and gloves will be provided. Refreshments will also be available, but volunteers are asked to bring water bottles or cups, and to wear appropriate clothing for outdoor work; durable, enclosed shoes are a must.
