Boys basketball player of the year: Semi Ojeleye, Ottawa.

Ojeleye led all Journal-World area players with 23.3 points per game in the winter. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds per game and shot 53 percent from the field. Ojeleye was an All-Frontier League first-team selection; a Class 4A All-State selection; and a Journal-World first-team All-Area selection in 2010.

Boys basketball coach of the year: Jon McKowen, Ottawa.

McKowen guided the Cyclones (22-4) to the Class 4A state title game, where they finished runner-up. The second-place finish at state was best among all J-W area schools this past winter. It was only the second time in school history Ottawa advanced to the state title game. The Cyclones won a state title in 1971.
