— A soldier from Topeka who was injured in Afghanistan is recovering after successful surgery to fuse his spine together.

Twenty-six-year-old Army Sgt. Jamie Jarboe was shot in the neck April 10 while on foot patrol, damaging his upper spinal column.

His wife, Melissa Wallace-Jarboe, told The Topeka Capital Journal that his surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. was successful. She says he was resting comfortably after the surgery on Monday.

Jarboe is a native of Frankfort, Ind., and is based at Fort Riley. The couple has lived in Topeka for about a year. Wallace-Jarboe grew up in Holton.
