LHS soccer ripped by Cougars

After a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Shawnee Mission Northwest, Lawrence High’s girls soccer team sat in a circle near the shut-down scoreboard.

The Lions were stretching and cooling down, but they were also discussing how they can warm up for games more effectively.

“I gotta get these girls ready to play,” LHS coach Joe Nemzer said. “I didn’t do my job today, and it cost us. You gotta warm up the way you play.”

Despite the loss, Nemzer said he felt it could be a turn-around-the-season-type game for the Lions (2-7).

“I think we all knew that team was not five goals better than us.,” Nemzer said. “But you let things happen, you take time off, you aren’t there 100 percent mentally, and it’s going to bite you.”

Lawrence High will entertain Olathe East on Tuesday.
