How to Help: March for Babies seeking entertainment help

The March of Dimes is looking for volunteers to do face painting and/or balloon twisting at its annual event, March for Babies. The event will be April 30 in South Park, and volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Contact Mary Weians at 842-9600, ext. 327, or Mary.Weians@searshc.com.

Immediate needs

• The 84th annual Kansas Relays will be in Lawrence this week, and more volunteers are needed for the event. Volunteers will help with various duties, such as delivering food to officials, directing athletes from one area to another, posting results, retrieving items such as shot puts or discus, and working the check-in tables. Those who volunteer for three hours or more will receive a T-shirt and meals while they are working. Volunteers will attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. today at Memorial Stadium. • The Clinton Lake Clean-up Committee is looking for volunteers to come out to its 28th annual Clinton Lake Clean-up at 9 a.m. Saturday. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families and especially younger children. Volunteers will get to meet Woodsy Owl, who reminds you to “Give a hoot, don’t pollute!” They will also learn more about recycling and the trails and parks surrounding Clinton Lake, and can win prizes and “Cash for Trash” coupons. Volunteers can pre-register by contacting Kipp Walters at 843-7665 or just show up the day of at Overlook Park, Shelter 1. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

• The Willow Domestic Violence Center is in need of volunteers for its May 6 event, Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, a 5K and 1-mile walk at Haskell Stadium. Tasks will include parking help, registration, setup and cleanup, first aid help and much more. • The Kansas Arthritis Foundation is in need of volunteers for its sixth annual Walk for Arthritis on May 7, a 5K and 1-mile walk happening at South Park.
