Kansas senior guard Tyrel Reed, who was one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, was named All-America first team by the award and recognized Friday during open practices at the Final Four at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Div. I coaches, national media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in NCAA Div. I men’s basketball.

Though Reed won the fan voting for the award, earning more than 32 percent of the fan votes among the 10 finalists, BYU’s Jimmer Fredette was named the 2011 recipient of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Reed is the winningest player in KU history with a 132-17 record in his four seasons. He was named 2011 All-Big 12 honorable mention and was KU’s third-leading scorer, averaging 9.7 points per game.
