City sets compost sale Sept. 23-25

The city’s fall compost sale is set for next week at the Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St.

Here’s the schedule:

• 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

• 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. If the supply is depleted, the sale will end early.

The compost — dark, crumbly, sweet smelling material, similar in appearance to the top layer of high quality soil — is made of organic materials that have been broken down into a stable form by microorganisms. The compost is made from the weekly collection of residential yard trimmings, which includes grass, leaves, garden prunings and small woody waste.

At the sale, you may load your own material or have a city employee load it by tractor into pickups and small trailers. The city cannot load trucks with ladder racks.

The cost for the city to load compost will be $10 per pickup truckload, and more will be charged for larger trucks or trailers. The city requires payments in cash only.
