4-H and FCE News

The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club‘s October meeting was held at Wakarusa Valley School and was called to order by Kirstyn Heine, president. Roll call was answered by “What is your favorite Halloween candy?” Morgan Manger, secretary, read the minutes from the last meeting and the September meeting. Kiera and Nicki Snodgrass led the club in singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Tessa Lieber read the treasurer’s report.

Lanaea Heine, community leader, talked about club elections, the Achievement Celebration, officer training, the Clinton Presbyterian Church turkey supper, enrollment cards, and Orscheln 4-H discount cards. Community Service project dates were discussed and finalized. Old business included the car show concession stand, Tractors for our Daily Bread, National 4-H Week, and the Maple Leaf Parade float. There was also a call for new members.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Wakarusa Valley School.

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club met Oct. 11 in the Dreher Building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. President Kate McCurdy called the meeting to order and led the club in the flag salute. Song leader Jazlyn Wendell-Hummell led the club in singing “The Addams Family.” Roll call was answered by “French fries or tater tots?” Sixteen members and seventeen guests were present. A financial report was given by treasurer Henry Mitchell.

Community leader Paula Aiken told the club the County Achievement Celebration today will feature a barbecue lunch and tickets are available. Officer training was held Tuesday at the fairgrounds. The Bromelsick holiday party will be Dec. 5 at Kansas University. The Publicity Committee thanked everyone who helped put together the 4-H window display that was exhibited at Pro Print during National 4-H Week.

The Festival of Trees committee announced a meeting to make decorations for the wreath. Following the meeting, there was a project fair where members could view and sign up for projects for the coming year.

The next club meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Dreher Building.

The Kanwaka 4-H Club meeting on Sept. 13 at Kanwaka Township Hall was called to order by president Stuart Wakeman. The pledge of allegiance and club pledge were led by Conner Rainey and Kyleigh Leslie. Roll call was answered by, “What is your favorite subject in school? July and August minutes were read.

Vice president Maggy Keslar made an announcement about officer elections, and Mariah Dickson gave the treasurer’s report. The Achievement Banquet will be today and officer training was Tuesday.

Leanne Dickson told the club that record books were due at the end of September. She announced Jenalee Dickson and Mariah Dickson earned blue ribbons on their dresses at the state fair, and talked about the Walk for Diabetes. The club donated $25 to the walk.

Carey Rainey talked about enrollment forms. She also announced the club got second place on their hay bale. Janine Leslie told the club the Bromelsick party will be Dec. 5.

In new business, the club voted to have its own achievement banquet at 4 p.m. on Nov. 14. The banquet will be combined with a shorter November meeting.

Mariah Dickson reported about Discovery Days, an overnight camp on Kansas State University and a career show.

Elections results were: Mariah Dickson, president; Alex McMillon, junior president; Maggy Keslar, vice president; Conner Rainey, junior vice president; Martha Keslar, secretary; Jenalee Dickson, junior secretary; Kyle Rainey, treasurer; Morgan Leslie, junior treasurer; Martha Keslar, reporter; Alex Price, parliamentarian; Maggy Keslar, County Council representative; Jenalee Dickson, historian; Tabatha Peters and Kyliegh Leslie, photographers; Tabatha Peters and Haley Cheek, song leaders; and Sarah Ward and Joe Ward, recreation leaders.

October’s meeting was held Oct. 11 at Kanwaka Township Hall. The parents of the retiring officers presided. The Keslar family cleaned the hall for September and the Dickson family will clean it for October. The club motto was led by September birthdays and the meeting was adjourned.

The Douglas County 4-H Horse Project meeting was held Sept. 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Members discussed their accomplishments at the state fair and listened to a project talk about getting ready for winter. Officers were elected for the new 4-H year. The Unbelievable Horse Happening is Nov. 4-7 at the American Royal. The club is thinking about ideas for the spring 2011 Horse Clinic. The next meeting will be Nov. 16 at the fairgrounds. Members voted to go bowling on Nov. 22 for their Achievement Celebration.
