Kansas University’s annual Christmas Vespers program was being dropped for reasons of economy. The dean of the School of Fine Arts said that the program, which had begun in 1924 under the guidance of then-dean Donald Swarthout, usually cost about $2,000.

A young man identifying himself as Wayne D. Macura of Bridgeport, Conn., had been arrested by KU police for selling parking in a university parking lot at $1 per car. The lot, located at 1225 Oread, had been the site of the White House, which had been purchased by the KU Endowment Association. The White House had been a focal point of confrontation between police and young people during the summer and had been the site of several fires. A parking lot had been built on that site and an adjoining one owned by the association.

The home of KU Chancellor Laurence Chalmers had been burglarized overnight. The burglars had taken two packages of cigarettes and $20 in cash.
