Representatives from the Champagne-Ardenne area of France were planning a visit to Kansas to promote business relations between the state and their region, possibly leading to new plants and new jobs being developed in Kansas.

Local computer store Computerark was advertising the “Kaypro 2000,” one of the first laptop computers. The 2000 was advertised as providing “the equivalent of a full-sized IBM PC – for thousands of dollars less.” This early laptop weighed between 12 and 14 pounds and ran on an 8088 processor (4.77MHz). It boasted 256K of RAM, a monochrome LCD screen (about seven by four inches), one 720K floppy disk drive, and MS-DOS version 2.11. All this for only $1,995!
