A windshield was broken on a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train Monday morning as it was traveling west through Douglas County near Lecompton, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman said.

The BNSF crew called law enforcement about 9:30 a.m. about two objects striking the right windshield of the lead engine as the train was near the 300 block of North 2190 Road, known as the Upper River Road, Sgt. Steve Lewis said. The site is about 3 miles west of Lecompton.

Lewis said the conductor and engineer of the train said two objects struck the windshield. The initial report was that possible gunshots caused the damage, but Andy Williams, a BNSF spokesman, said there was not confirmation of that. He said the incident was still under investigation.

No injuries were reported, Lewis said.

The train eventually stopped in Shawnee County and the crew switched engines before continuing, Williams said.
