• “Sesame Street,” which had been running on PBS stations for about a year, would continue to be available on Topeka’s PBS affiliate, according to the station manager. A comment made earlier in the week by the Washburn University president at a Board of Regents meeting had been misunderstood, and children would still be able to watch the show, which was described as combining “a rare blend of entertainment and education parents say fascinates most youngsters.”
• Students at U.S.D. 497 were looking forward to their two-day Thanksgiving vacation. In the meantime, their lunch menu for the three-day week included pigs-in-blankets, green beans, and parsley-buttered potatoes, chicken pie with biscuits, and chili with cornbread.
