KU proposes housing, food service rate increase

? Housing and food service rates at Kansas University would increase 1.4 percent under a proposal before the Kansas Board of Regents.

For a typical double occupancy room, the rate at KU would go from $6,982 per year to $7,080, an increase of $98. The 1.4 percent increase is the lowest among the six regents universities.

Kansas State has proposed a 3.5 percent increase; Wichita State and Emporia State, 2.4 percent; Pittsburg State, 4.5 percent; and Fort Hays State, 3.2 percent.

The increases are needed because of increased costs and facility maintenance and enhancements, according to the schools.

The regents will give the proposed rates an initial look next week and finalize the rates next month. The proposal would make the rates effective July 1.
