Immediate needs

• The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Program needs volunteer drivers, who will serve as an important part of cancer patients’ road to recovery. Volunteers provide cancer patients safe and friendly transportation to and from the treatments they need. Transportation is one of the top three unmet needs of cancer patients. The program offers flexible hours and free training. Requirements include a good driving record, valid driver’s license and a vehicle that is in good working condition. For more information, contact Deb Parsons at deb.parsons@cancer.org or 800-359-1025.

• Just Food of ECKAN needs regular volunteers to work during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers typically work shifts that are two to four hours long, to fit the volunteers’ schedule. Volunteers will assist with database entry, food donation intake and organization. Training is provided. To volunteer, contact, ckeeton@eckan.org.

• The Youth Volunteer Corps at the Roger Hill Volunteer Center is seeking volunteer assistance with the Summer of Service program. This program will engage 10 to 20 middle-school age youths in service projects from June 1 until Aug. 31. Volunteers are needed for the following positions (mileage reimbursement is available):

Artist: Seeking artists/anyone with good ideas to help Summer of Service youth plan and implement recycled art projects for kids ages 5-12 attending Parks and Recreation Summer Playground programs.

Assistant to Youth Volunteer Coordinator: Help transport youths and supervise miscellaneous projects throughout Douglas County this summer. We’re looking for safe drivers who like working with young teenagers, primarily outdoors.
