From the Lawrence Daily World for May 10, 1910: “John Horrell, a farmer living 15 miles southwest of here and his wife were thrown to the pavement from their spring wagon this afternoon when an auto struck the wagon from behind as the auto was trying to avoid a street car. They were not seriously hurt. … State officials are here to study the impact of tuberculosis on the dairy herd at Haskell Institute. It appears 21 animals have been infected.”
