Winter storm disaster declared for Douglas County, five others

? A federal disaster declaration for damage from severe storms over the winter holidays has been extended to six more Kansas counties.

State officials announced the declaration Wednesday for Coffey, Douglas, Geary, Leavenworth, Montgomery and Rooks counties.

The declaration lets counties request federal assistance to replace or repair bridges, roads and other infrastructure damage or destroyed by storms from Dec. 22 through Jan. 8.

Forty-five other Kansas counties were covered by a disaster declaration signed by President Barack Obama in March.
