Kansas guard Xavier Henry pulls up for a jumper prior to tipoff against Texas A&M in the Big 12 Tournament. Henry has a press conference scheduled for 3 p.m. today to announce his future plans.

NBAdraft.net reported via its Twitter account Wednesday that Kansas University freshman guard Xavier Henry has decided he’s entering the 2010 NBA Draft and an “announcement is expected soon.”

“I don’t believe that to be true,” KU coach Bill Self said Wednesday from Kansas City International Airport. He was preparing to board a flight for Indianapolis, site of this weekend’s Final Four.

“Though the family may be leaning that way (toward turning pro), they told me they wanted the rest of the weekend to think about it. In talking to them yesterday, I was told a decision would be made after more deliberation, and an announcement would be made after I get back from the Final Four (likely early next week in a news-conference format). I do believe he will take the rest of the weekend to solidify what he wants to do,” Self added of Henry.

Players have until April 25 to declare for the draft.

Word apparently is starting to filter out to agents and runners that Henry most definitely is NBA-bound, which apparently is the reason for the rise in Internet reports. One agent told the Journal-World it long has been assumed Henry is a “one and done” college player, and he has heard nothing to change that.

Henry is considered a likely lottery (top 14) pick in the 2010 draft. His announcing for the draft will give KU three scholarships for the Class of 2010. KU has landed one signee in Royce Woolridge, 6-foot-3 from Phoenix.

Lamb says Henry gone

KU target Doron Lamb, a 6-4 guard from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., scored 12 points in the West’s 107-104 victory over the East in Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-American Game in Columbus, Ohio.

Lamb, who is considering KU, Kentucky, UConn, West Virginia and Arizona, tells Rivals.com that Self told him Henry is definitely NBA-bound, and it would open some playing time at KU.

“Coach Self told me Xavier (Henry) is leaving,” Lamb told Rivals. “He’s going lottery or first round; regardless, he’s not coming back. He said that would be my spot really, said I would play right away, that I would start and average about 30 minutes a game.”

Lamb indicated that UK coach John Calipari also told him “the whole (UK) freshman class is leaving (for NBA)” and that would open nine scholarship slots for next season.

Josh Selby, 6-2 from Baltimore’s Lake Clifton High, scored 13 points for the East team. He is considering KU, Kentucky, UConn, Arizona and Tennessee and like Lamb will announce at the Jordan Brand Classic on April 17.

Brandon Knight, a 6-3 guard from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., scored nine points and hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to pace the West to victory. He is considering KU, Kentucky, UConn, Florida and Syracuse.

Harrison Barnes (North Carolina, 18 points) and Jared Sullinger (Ohio State, 22) were named co-MVPs.
