LHS boys track third, girls place fourth

? The Lawrence High boys track and field team finished third and the girls team placed fourth at the six-team Topeka West Relays at Summer Sports Park on Friday night.

The boys team had two individuals winners — Roy Wedge in the 1,600-meter run and Blake Hocking in the shot put — while Calvin Morgan, Jonathan Gabler, Simon Fangman and Kyler Thomann combined to win the 4X800-meter relay.

On the girls side, Whitney Demby (100-meter hurdles, triple jump), TaMiya Green (300-meter hurdles) and Carissa Nott (pole vault) all earned first-place finishes.

“It’s a good first step,” said LHS coach Jack Hood. “We’re ahead of ourselves in some areas, and we’re a little behind in some areas, but it was a good first effort. Jonathan GAbler and Taylor coleman really steped up,

The Lions will host Free State and Leavenworth on Tuesday at Lawrence High School.
