Douglas County Emergency Management won’t activate the county’s outdoor warning sirens during the statewide tornado drill at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

County officials say the threat for possible rain on Thursday has forced the cancellation. It is standard procedure for local agencies to postpone siren tests during the threat of actual inclement weather.

The Emergency Alert System on radio and television stations may still be activated.

Officials already postponed the statewide drill from Tuesday to Thursday because of the threat of severe weather earlier in the week.

Even though the sirens won’t sound Thursday, Douglas County Emergency Management officials still encourage the community to practice tornado safety plans.

The next regularly scheduled test is noon Monday, weather permitting.
