CASA playhouse going on tour before July fundraiser

As a reminder that every child needs a safe and permanent home, the Douglas County CASA playhouse will go on tour.

Local pediatrician Marshall Kelley designed and constructed this year’s playhouse. Inspired by Lincoln Logs, the playhouse is intended to support the basic principles of play and provide a simple and natural environment for children.

The playhouse tour and benefit is the single largest fundraiser for Douglas County CASA, which matches volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates with children who are under the protection of the court system due to neglect or abuse.

The playhouse will be at several locations this summer. During the tour, tickets to win the playhouse can be purchased for a suggested $2 donation online, dccasa.org; at the CASA office, 1009 N.H.; and at Peoples Bank, 3045 Iowa.

The winning ticket will be announced at the Casa for CASA Celebration on July 17 at the Lawrence Arts Center. The event also will include a silent auction for dollhouses that have been decorated by local artists and groups. Tickets for the July 17 gala are $35 and can be purchased online or at the CASA office.

Here’s a schedule for the playhouse tour.
