Eudora raises $3,000 in ‘No Hate Campaign’

Results are in for the “No Hate Campaign” by the Eudora School District.

Lawrence’s Headquarters Counseling Center on Thursday counted up the money raised by students districtwide. In just over a week’s time, teachers and students in Eudora put together $3,118.35.

The effort began the week before high school graduation from a Facebook group and turned into a districtwide campaign to combat the protests of Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church of their graduation ceremony.

Students fought hate with dollars, and according to Marcia Epstein, director of Headquarters Counseling Center, the students won.

“We are celebrating these kids’ graduation,” Epstein said. “We are not letting anybody put a damper on it, and we’re doing something really positive for the community at the same time. We really want to say thank you.”

Epstein said she is impressed the school was able to raise so much money in just a week’s time.
