Man found guilty of slashing roommate

A Douglas County jury Monday afternoon convicted a 54-year-old Lawrence man for using a razor-like blade to slash his roommate during a June 1 altercation.

Jurors found Lawrence Jackson guilty of aggravated battery and making a criminal threat.

Prosecutors accused Jackson of using the blade against his roommate during an argument that evening in the 400 block of Michigan Street. The victim was eventually treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The trial lasted one day.

The Douglas County district attorney’s office estimates Jackson will receive a sentence of two years and eight months in prison on the aggravated battery conviction.

Michael Allen, an assistant district attorney, prosecuted the case. Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin revoked bond for Jackson, who will be sentenced Aug. 25.
