Cactus go 1-1 at Wichita Pastime Tournament

? The Lawrence Cactus lost a one-run game and won another Friday in the Wichita State Pastime Tournament.

Hours after suffering a 4-3 loss to the Oklahoma Drillers in the morning, the Cactus edged the Kansas City Mets, 7-6, in the afternoon.

“We played an outstanding team with players from two of the best baseball schools in the Tulsa area, Union High School and Broken Arrow high school,” Cactus coach Wilson Kilmer said. “We did a good job of competing and were just a hit away from winning the game.”

They got that hit in the second game.

Ryan Scott hit a one-out, bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory for the Cactus, who collected 12 hits. Colin Toalson picked up the win with an inning of hitless relief. He and Tim Lewis each went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Lawrence (17-8) will resume tournament play today.
