Firing upheld of northeast Kansas schoolteacher over sexual innuendo

? An arbitrator has upheld the firing of a northeast Kansas middle school science teacher accused of using sexual banter in class.

Shawnee Mission School District Superintendent Gene Johnson said in a news release Tuesday the Johnson County district is “extremely pleased” with the decision involving Ryan Haraughty.

The popular Mission Valley Middle School science teacher appealed when he lost his job in November after a string of discipline referrals.

The arbitration report gave several examples of inappropriate remarks, including claims that Haraughty called a girl “skank” and immediately apologized.

Another time, students began giggling at Haraughty’s drawing of the state of Florida.

Haraughty has acknowledged responding with a suggestive remark involving a part of the human anatomy.
