Overland Park lays off 42 workers

? The Kansas City suburb of Overland Park has announced it will lay off 42 employees to deal with difficult financial times.

City Manager John Nachbar said this past week in a news release that the local economy continues to struggle and that the city “is not immune to the downturn.”

He says the five-year financial forecast shows a significant decrease in revenue growth for both sales and property taxes.

The city is eliminating 61 positions, including 42 that were filled. Of the 61 positions eliminated, 55 were full-time, and the others were part-time positions.
