Columbia, Mo. ? It’s no secret Kansas University’s women play better — usually MUCH better — basketball at home.

Take senior standout Danielle McCray, for example.

KU has had six Big 12 Conference games so far — three at home, three on the road. In the home games, McCray is averaging 27.7 points, but that number falls off a cliff to 7.7 in road outings.

The Jayhawks will be back in an unfriendly venue again today, meeting Missouri and hoping to reverse their troublesome trend of losing conference games outside of Allen Fieldhouse.

Tipoff will be at 5 p.m. in the Mizzou Arena. The game won’t be televised, and the Jayhawk Network radio broadcast will be delayed until after the KU men’s game.

Since edging Missouri, 70-66, in the last league game of the 2007 season, Kansas had dropped 17 of 18 of its Big 12 road contests. The lone victory was last season at Oklahoma State.

Missouri, currently in the league cellar with a 1-5 record, may offer the Jayhawks their best opportunity to post a rare road win. The Tigers are last in the league in field-goal and free-throw percentage and 10th in rebounding.

Moreover, Kansas clipped Mizzou, 72-59, a couple of weeks ago in Lawrence after roaring to a 42-18 halftime lead.

Nevertheless, playing MU in Columbia isn’t likely to follow a similar scenario because, as KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said, “At home, (Missouri is) as good as we’ve been at home.”

If the Jayhawks don’t win today, their chances of earning an NCAA Tournament bid will decrease significantly because six of their nine remaining Big 12 games will be against ranked teams.

On a more positive note, KU’s next three games will be at home, starting with a visit from Kansas State a week from Sunday.
