Kansas swimming wins two duals

? The Kansas University swimming and diving team defeated Loyola Marymount (137-67) and UC San Diego (150-53) on Saturday.

The Jayhawks took the top spot in nine of 11 events and are now 5-4 in dual competition on the season.

KU sophomore Stephanie Payne won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.71, while freshman Rebecca Swank won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:17.67 and the 500-yard free in 5:00.19.

KU junior captain Joy Bunting captured first place (4:26.64) in the 400 IM and contributed to the Jayhawks’ 400-yard medley relay victory. The team of junior Iuliia Kuzhil, Bunting, junior Brittany Potter and freshman Brooke Brull won the relay in 3:54.44.

Sophomore Shannon Garlie won the 200-yard freestyle, racing to a .17-second victory at 1:53.28.

The Jayhawks return home for a Big 12 dual meet against Nebraska on Jan. 16. The meet will begin at 2 p.m. at Robinson Natatorium.
