Lawrence Home Show features latest building, design trends

The Kring’s Interiors booth at the 2010 Lawrence Home Show featured a variety of flooring, including Corboo, which incorporates the best features of both sustainable cork and bamboo.

More than 60 merchants attended the 2010 Lawrence Home Show at First Serve Tennis, representing a variety of innovations in home design and home improvement.

“The emphasis, again, is on green, energy-efficient products, especially those that are eligible for government tax credits. Consumer demand and awareness continue to drive growing interest for those types of goods and services,” says Bobbie Flory, executive director of the Lawrence Home Builders Association, which sponsored the event.

Messler Roofing’s Gregg Davidson says Energy Star-rated roofing reflects better and absorbs less heat. The associated utility bill savings and tax credits provide added incentives for educated consumers who are considering a big-ticket purchase like a new or replacement roof.

The Kring’s Interiors booth featured Corboo, a new flooring incorporating the best features of both earth-friendly cork and bamboo. Hunter Douglas insulating window blinds that offer tax incentives were also on display.

Prices have declined on popular front-loading washers that use 15 gallons of water versus the 40 to 45 gallons used by other models, according to Greg LaPlante of Factory Direct Appliance.

While snow was flying outside, spring was in the air at the Pine Family Farm booth, where Brian and Kathleen Pine discussed plans for “Patio Parties,” informal, in-season, gatherings to acquaint customers with plants and plant care. The Pines also plan to expand on the interest generated by their organic produce.

John Fiedler, sales manager with Custom Wood Products, reported a surge in the popularity of reclaimed wood similar to the 19th century chestnut cabinetry featured in their show display.

“Home and Away” premieres at 6:30 p.m. Mondays on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6, with repeats throughout the week.
