25 years ago: City prosecutor injured in sledding accident at KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 19, 1985:

  • City Prosecutor Mike Glover was recovering at Lawrence Memorial Hospital from fractured ribs and back injuries after a sledding accident on Mount Oread. Glover had sustained his injuries when the disc-shaped plastic sled he and his daughter were riding in had turned around backwards and hit a tree. A few other sledders also experienced accidents on the hill, according to Kansas University police.
  • Lawrence’s new airport terminal was nearly complete. The $567,421 building was ready for its interior painting and finish work. The parking lot was still to be built and the sewer service was yet to be installed, so the terminal was not expected to be ready for use until spring.
  • The 1985 farm bill approved by the U.S. Congress was getting poor reviews from Rep. Jim Slattery and state Rep. Robin Leach. Both said that the bill, which was expected to cost $52 billion, wouldn’t last the four or five years it was intended to cover.
