California man sentenced to prison for transporting 700 pounds of marijuana through Kansas

? A 69-year-old California man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for transporting 700 pounds of marijuana through Kansas.

Prosecutors say John McCollum of San Francisco pleaded guilty to transporting marijuana across state lines.

He was stopped by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper in November 2009 on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County while driving a rental truck pulling a trailer.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Topeka says McCollum told the patrolman he was one the way from San Francisco to South Carolina. A search of the truck turned up 720 pounds of pot.

McCollum was sentenced Tuesday.
