Wichita ? Efforts to promote financial literacy in Kansas schools are getting a boost thanks to a popular game and a $50,000 donation.

Students from Overland Park’s Blue Valley North High School on Friday will be playing “The Stock Market Game.” Kansas Securities Commissioner Marc Wilson will be on hand, along with members of the Kansas Council on Economic Education, which is hosted by Wichita State University.

Wilson also will be presenting the council a $50,000 grant to further financial literacy efforts. The money helps defray the cost of game fees for schools.

Students trade stocks, research the market and plan their portfolios through the game, which is a simulation meant to provide hands-on experience making investment decisions.
