Grants through the Douglas County Community Foundation have reached the $5 million mark.

The organization hit the milestone Tuesday when it presented a check to the Family Promise of Lawrence at a Rotary lunch on Tuesday. The $5,000 grant is going toward the nonprofit’s Fresh Start program, which supports the physical and academic health of children whose families are homeless.

In the past 10 years, the Douglas County Community Foundation has served as an umbrella for nearly 100 charitable funds and helped more than 200 community organizations.
