Officers to conduct patrols looking for impaired drivers

Lawrence Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s officers will step up their enforcement of the state’s impaired driving laws later this month

Funding comes as part of the STEP grant program’s “Drunk Driving: Over the Limit” initiative, which will be Aug. 19 through Sept. 6.

Police and sheriff’s officers will conduct a saturation patrol from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 27 and a check lane from 11 p.m. Aug. 27 to 2 a.m. Aug. 28.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said in addition to looking for impaired drivers, officers will be seeking to enforce the state’s seat belt and child restraint laws.
