Topeka ? Voter turnout is varied across Kansas for its primary election.

The Kansas secretary of state’s office reported Tuesday that nearly 87,000 people cast advance ballots. According to Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew, advance ballot submissions are up over 33 percent since 2006 with nearly 1,300 ballots received by noon on Monday.

Spokeswoman Abbie Hodgson said the secretary of state’s office is getting reports of healthy turnout in vote-rich Johnson and Sedgwick counties.

But she said it’s not clear whether that’s because a higher percentage are using advance ballots. The secretary of state’s office is projecting 19 percent turnout, or about 324,000 people, participating statewide.

Shew said the typical morning rush in Douglas County didn’t materialize.

In Sedgwick County, Election Commissioner Bill Gale said turnout Tuesday morning was steady, but he’s not backing off his prediction of 20 percent.

If you have an advance ballot, today is the final day to turn it in. They must be at the office of the County Election Officer, 1100 Massachusetts, by 7 p.m. to be counted.
