A kick-off breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. at Free State High School. Volunteers will then be sent to dozens of projects going on throughout Douglas County — from painting to gardening and everything in between. Projects last three to four hours. Immediate needs

• The LMH Food and Nutrition Services Department is developing a new volunteer service beginning in May. This service will consist of a volunteer being assigned to a nursing unit and visiting with patients about their lunch and dinner menu selections for that day, and breakfast for the next day. The volunteer will then take those meal requests to the Food and Nutrition Department. Volunteer shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every day of the week. Training for nutrition ambassadors will be provided. To volunteer, contact the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services office at 505-3141.

• The city of Lawrence is looking for volunteers to help with the Earth Day celebration on Saturday in South Park. Volunteers are needed to help set up from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and to break down displays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. To get involved, contact Cassandra Ford at 785-832-3026 or cford@ci.lawrence.ks.us
