LHS track claims six firsts

? Lawrence High’s track and field team had six first-place finishes on Friday at the Topeka Relays at Hummer Sports Park. The Lions boys placed fourth with 85 points, while the girls took fifth with 66 points.

“A lot of their hard work is starting to pay off,” LHS coach Jack Hood said. “The times are starting to drop.”

On the boys side, the 4×800-meter relay (Calvin Morgan, Roy Wedge, Jonathan Gabler, Kyler Thomann) won in 8:12.13. Other first-place finishes were Wedge in the 3,200 (9:55.58) and Blake Hocking in the discus (145-5).

The girls 4×800-relay team (Shelby Clark, Alexis Scheibler, Emily Davidson, Chloe Hay) also won in 10:34.68.

Other first-place girls finishers: Whitney Demby in the 100 hurdles (16.51) and TaMiya Green in the 300 hurdles (49.98).
