The National Weather Service has canceled the severe thunderstorm watch for Douglas County and surrounding counties.

The watch was originally set to expire at 10 p.m. but was canceled early.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 10:30 p.m. for parts of Leavenworth, Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas.

A flood advisory is in effect for Franklin County until 11 p.m.

7:10 p.m.

The majority of the power outages have been resolved, according to the latest information from Westar Energy.

Just 69 Douglas County customers are still without power and they’re scattered around the city.

The three largest clusters of outages, Lawrence Avenue, 23rd and Iowa and southwest Lawrence all have seen their power return.

6:38 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for southeast Leavenworth, Wyandotte and northwest Johnson counties until 10:30 p.m.

Be cautious when driving through low-lying areas, and do not attempt to cross a roadway covered with water.

6:27 p.m.

The latest information from 6News Chief Meteorologist Matt Elwell indicates we could be in for more rounds of rain tonight, with the possibility of severe weather still out there.

Elwell said the greatest threat is from 1″ hail and damaging winds.

As of 6:30 p.m., 2,780 Westar Energy customers in Douglas County were without power, with the primary concentration being in portions of Lawrence west of Iowa Street, south of Clinton Parkway and northeast of the South Lawrence Trafficway.

5:52 p.m.

Westar Energy is now reporting 3,239 customers in Douglas County without power.

The biggest cluster is now around Sunflower Elementary school, where power went down just before 5:45 this evening.

Other outages are spread around town.

5:32 p.m.

As of 5:30 this evening, all severe thunderstorm warnings covering Douglas County have expired.

A severe thunderstorm watch continues until 10 p.m. Reports of downed powerlines, trees and other light to moderate damage have been reported across the area.

As of 5:30, 615 Douglas County Westar Energy customers were without power, with two large clusters roughly along Lawrence Avenue between 6th and Bob Billings and near the intersection of 23rd and Iowa.

5:26 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm warning continues until at least 5:30 for portions of Douglas County.

At 5:20 p.m., weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds was moving toward the area.

It was located near Overbrook and moving northeast at 60 mph.

5:05 p.m.

As of 4:58 p.m., radar continues to indicate a storm producing quarter size-hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located 4 miles southwest of Osage City moving northeast at 60 mph.

We’ve had reports of flooding in the 4000 block of Sixth Street.

4:57 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a new severe thunderstorm warning for southwest Douglas County until 5:30 p.m.

The watch also covers parts of Franklin, Shawnee and Osage counties.

At 4:40 p.m., doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and winds in excess of 60 mph was located 10 miles northeast of Emporia, moving northeast at 60 mph.

Westar Energy is now reporting 602 customers in Douglas County without power.

4:55 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm warning for Douglas County has been canceled, but small hail, wind and heavy rain continues to be possible from storms moving through the area.

The severe thunderstorm warning continues for Leavenworth County until 5 p.m.

4:48 p.m.

We’re starting to get reports of damage from around Lawrence.

So far, Westar Energy is reporting at least 149 customers without power, mostly concentrated between 6th and 15th streets, west of Iowa, though there are scattered outages around town.

We’ve also received reports of a grass fire in the 400 block of Maine, a tree blocking the road in the 300 block of Maine and a power pole in the road in the 600 block of Missouri.

The Free State High School softball game this afternoon has been canceled.

Rain continues to pour across Lawrence. Hail has been reported in several areas.

4:35 p.m.

We’re getting reports of broken glass from windows in west Lawrence.

We’re also getting heavy rain and hail in downtown Lawrence.

4:31 p.m.

A new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Douglas County until 5 p.m.

The warning is for the storm that is moving toward Lawrence while producing half-dollar sized hail.

The warning now covers all of northern Douglas County, as well as Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties.

4:28 p.m.

As of 4:20 p.m., radar was still indicating a storm capable of producing half dollar-sized hail was moving toward Lawrence at 55 mph.

The storm was located 13 miles southwest of Lawrence. In addition to hail, it is capable of producing winds in excess of 60 mph.

Rain was beginning to fall in downtown Lawrence.

4:22 p.m.

At 4:15 p.m., Jefferson County emegency management officials reported a storm producing 60 mph winds was located near Perry, moving northeast at 50 mph.

A second storm is located further south, moving east-northeast over Clinton Lake and toward Lawrence.

Reports of rain in west Lawrence are beginning to come in.

4:03 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, trained weather spotters in Osage County are reported golf ball-sized hail seven miles northeast of Osage City, in a storm moving northeast at 60 mph.

70 mph winds were reported in Burlingame.

According to the weather service, Lone Star, Pleasant Grove and Lawrence are in the path of that storm.

A second storm was located 9 miles west of Osage City, moving northeast at 60 mph.

This storm was capable of producing half-dollar sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

3:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a new severe thunderstorm warning for Douglas County until 4:30 p.m.

The warning covers virtually all of the city of Lawrence and other points in northern and western Douglas County.

At 3:40 p.m., doppler radar indicated a storm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located 7 miles west of Carbondale, moving northeast at 55 mph.

This is part of a line of strong storms stretching from Topeka past Emporia.

3:21 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 3:45 p.m.

According to weather service radar, a storm capable of quarter-sized hail and damaging winds was located near Perry. A second dangerous storm, however, was located near Harveyville and was moving northeast toward Douglas County.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Douglas County until 3:45 p.m.

The watch covers northwest Douglas County, including northwest portions of Lawrence, as well as most of Shawnee and Jefferson counties.

At 3 p.m., National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a storm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

The storm was located nine miles southeast of Topeka, moving northeast at 55 mph.

2:11 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a wide swath of northeast Kansas, including Douglas County.

The watch, which stretches from the Kansas-Oklahoma border to the Missouri-Iowa border, is in effect until 10 p.m.

In addition to Douglas County, the watch covers the nearby counties of Jefferson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Franklin, Shawnee and Osage counties.
