El Dorado ? A Kansas man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison with no chance of parole for raping and killing a college student who led a secret life as an Internet porn model and dumping her body on the side of the road.

Israel Mireles, 26, had claimed he left a so-called mystery man in a motel room where he’d gone with 18-year-old Emily Sander after a night of drinking, and found her dead when he returned.

The Butler Community College student left a southeast Kansas bar with Mireles on Nov. 23, 2007. Her battered, nude body was found six days later about 50 miles away. It was later revealed that Sander also was known as Internet model Zoey Zane.

Mireles fled to Mexico with his girlfriend and was arrested there in December 2007. In exchange for Mireles’ extradition, the U.S. attorney in Kansas promised the state would not seek the death penalty.

During his trial in February, Mireles testified he and Sander drank beer and had sex in a motel. He claimed another man came into the motel room and fought with Mireles after a drug deal went sour.

Mireles testified he left the man in the room with Sander and found her when he came back. He said he took Sander’s body and went to see his pregnant girlfriend in Baxter Springs. On the way, he dumped Sander’s body near the side of the road.

He said he fled to Mexico with his girlfriend because he believed authorities would blame him for Sander’s death.
