An open house is planned Friday afternoon at the Villages, a nonprofit organization that provides emotionally supportive homes for children in need.

The event, which also is sponsored by FHLBank of Topeka, is set for 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Villages homes, 1149 E. 1200 Road, south of Lawrence.

The open house will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Villages home, built in 1969, as well as recent renovations. A ribbon-cutting will be at 4 p.m.

The six-year renovation project, called the Another 40 Years Project, centered on seven homes — two in Douglas County and five near Topeka. On Friday, the Villages staff will give tours. Refreshments will be available.
