Fort Riley soldier dies of Afghan wounds

? A Fort Riley soldier from New Mexico has died after being wounded in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Friday that Army Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook died Wednesday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

The 41-year-old from Shiprock, N.M., had been wounded Sept. 8 when insurgents attacked his unit in the Ganjigal Valley in Afghanistan, using small arms and indirect fire. Westbrook had been assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley.
