Tania Jackson will red-shirt for KU women

Kansas women's basketball freshman and former Lawrence High standout Tania Jackson will red-shirt this season.

Kansas women’s basketball freshman and former Lawrence High standout Tania Jackson will red-shirt this season, KU coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Tuesday.

Jackson, a 6-foot-2 forward, missed her senior season at LHS after suffering a knee injury. She had surgery on the knee last fall.

“This is really the best thing for Tania,” Henrickson said in a release. “Taking a redshirt will allow her to get completely healthy. It will provide her an opportunity to compete every day in practice. Not only will she be able to improve her own game, but she can also challenge her teammates day in and day out and help grow their game.”

Jackson played in both of KU’s two exhibition games, contributing one point and three rebounds in eight minutes.

The Jayhawks open the 2009-10 regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. home game against Oral Roberts.
