Mayfield’s 21 kills spark Jayhawks at CU

? Kansas University sophomore Allison Mayfield had a career-best 21 kills in the Jayhawks’ 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 volleyball victory over Colorado on Wednesday night.

Karina Garlington, a junior from Denver, had eight kills off a team-high .400 attack percentage. Melissa Grieb had 17 digs and Melissa Manda 10.

Nicole Tate had nine digs and 36 assists.

Tate was the guiding force behind KU’s .500 attack percentage in the third set as the Jayhawks committed just one hitting error.

Kansas improved to 13-10 overall and 5-8 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes fell to 6-17 overall, 1-13 Big 12.

Kansas scored 19 of its 25 points on kills in the opening set.

Kansas will stay on the road for its next match on Saturday when it travels to Norman, Okla., to face the Sooners in a 2 p.m. match.
