Eudora blanks De Soto

? All the Eudora High football team needed against De Soto was a break.

Facing a fourth-and-five early in the second quarter, Eudora recovered a fumble on a De Soto punt return.

Eight plays later, senior quarterback Evan Cleveland punched it in from the one-yard line, and the Cardinals cruised past De Soto, 28-0, in the first round of the playoffs Tuesday at Eudora.

Cleveland later put the game away on a plunge from the goal line with 4:35 to play. Cleveland finished with 150 yards rushing on 24 carries and accounted for four touchdowns.

“He’s unbelievable,” Eudora coach Greg Webb said of Cleveland. “He wills our team to win, and he’s just getting better and better every week. He’s a tough out. He’s a really, really good high school football player.”

Eudora (8-2) will travel to Jefferson West at 7 p.m. Saturday for the next round of playoffs. De Soto finished the year at 4-6.
