KU catcher Afenir named Big 12 player of the week

Kansas catcher Buck Afenir was named the Big 12 player of the week, the conference announced Monday,

Afenir, a senior from Escondido, Calif., went 6-for-11 (.545) in a three-game weekend series against No. 11 Kansas State. He contributed two-run home runs in each of the final two games as the Jayhawks went on to win the series, 2-1.

In Big 12 play, Afenir is hitting .370 with five homers, seven doubles and 38 RBIs.

Tony Thompson (May 4) is the only other KU position player to win a conference weekly award this season.
